Architectural and construction characteristics: The residence of the most famous Italian composer of all time is the typical neo-classical building, most probably the result of the fusion of three portions dating back to the 16th century and whose baroque origins are still visible in the internal courtyard and in certain prestigious details. In fact, the façade, the porch and the double arcade courtyard are particularly significant, as well as the charming frescoed hall on the first floor. The Maestro Giuseppe Verdi acquired the building in 1845 and resided there together with the soprano Giuseppina Strettoni, who he subsequently married in 1859. It is here that Verdi composed the operas "Luisa Miller", "Stiffelio", "Rigoletto" and part of the "Traviata". In time the building acquired the Maestro's name. Today the building is known as "Palazzo Verdi-Orlandi", originating from the name of the family who owned it. It has a square plan with a central courtyard and is made up of several cadastral units designated for different uses, some intended for residential purposes, others for retail use as well as for museum space.
