Grande Albergo delle Nazioni

description analytical profile fund gallery

Architectural and construction characteristics: It is one of the best projects realized by the architect Alberto Calza Bini, in fact during the inauguration of the same in 1935, it was considered as one of the most prestigious hotels in Puglia.
The two main structures of the building rise on the shorefront magnificently painted in white and stand out due to the hotel's angular position overlooking the Adriatic sea. The hotel reflects the rational style of the fascist period and it has been declared as a building of 'historical interest' by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage.
The stylistic elements of the Thirties can be traced back in certain elements: the façade, the circular hall close to the entrance, the central staircase, the spherical shaped ceiling, the vertical glass block columns, the balcony extending on the circular canopy on the first floor. The last floor, realized in the Sixties, allows guests to enjoy a panoramic view from the terrace with a hall furnished with benches. A brief historical note: in 1977, the hotel became the property of Bari's Municipality which used it as accommodation for university students, while in 1999 it hosted the offices of Ici for tax collection. In 2007, the building was acquired by Fimco SpA and after the restoration which lasted about 4 years, it subsequently became part of the portfolio of the Tiziano Fund, San Nicola Sub-fund (2012).
